My Monthly Love Affair with RecycleSmart!

My Monthly Love Affair with RecycleSmart!

Let’s be honest, recycling can feel like a full-time job some weeks. You want to do the right thing, but the bins say “no” to half your efforts, soft plastics are basically the enemy now, and you’ve got three different piles of ‘I'll take this somewhere one day’ stashed in corners of your home.

Been there. Still there (a little). But also?

I've found something that actually works.

It’s called RecycleSmart, and it’s made recycling the “hard stuff” so much easier that it’s become a monthly ritual in my house.

What Is RecycleSmart?

RecycleSmart is a brilliant Aussie service that picks up all the tricky-to-recycle items right from your doorstep. That means -

  • Worn-out shoes
  • Old clothes, underwear, bras, socks
  • Batteries
  • E-waste (think cables, phones, dead devices)
  • Soft plastics (YES, those too!)
  • And MORE! It’s the dream team of waste reduction.

They offer monthly Power Pickups (that’s what I use) and on-demand pickups if you just want to trial it. You book through their website or app, chuck your items in a couple of bags, label them, and boom someone comes and takes them away. Responsibly.

Why I Love It (And Keep Using It)

There are a few reasons I’m low-key obsessed:

  1. It’s so easy. No driving across town to find a textile drop-off box that may or may not be there. It all gets picked up from my front door.
  2. It creates a rhythm. I use the monthly pickup option, so every few weeks I do a mini audit of what needs to go. It keeps clutter and waste in check without the all-or-nothing guilt spiral.
  3. It fits with how I live. I want to reduce waste without stressing over every tiny thing. This helps me do something tangible without it feeling like another job.
  4. It accepts the weird stuff. Like that lonely sock, the flat battery, or the iPhone cable that no longer fits anything.

How You Can Try It

  1. Check your postcode at recyclesmart.com to see if they service your area.
  2. Choose your pickup type (Power Pickup for regulars, or on-demand if you're just dipping your toe in).
  3. Pack your stuff into reusable bags, label them, and set them out on pickup day.
  4. Feel good knowing you just diverted a bunch of stuff from landfill.

Final Thoughts (From a Real Human)

This isn’t a paid ad or a #sponsored thing. It’s just something that genuinely helps me live more in tune with my values, and I thought it might help you too.

We don’t have to be perfect to make a difference. We just need the right systems, in the right season.

This one’s working beautifully for me. Let’s keep doing small things that matter 🧡
